I’m Sydney, a cookie artist in Los Angeles, California. I have been making cookies professionally since October 2018.
My first set of royal icing cookies came about as a gift for my 9th grade students at Valentine's Day 2015. They were bite-sized hearts, X's, and O's that my mom helped me decorate, both of us having no idea what we were actually doing-ha! I have always loved to bake, but I had no working knowledge of using royal icing (RI), consistencies, or any techniques besides covering the imperfections up with sprinkles. Fast forward to a year later and randomly deciding to try using RI again for a friend's birthday, Laboratory Professionals Week for my coworker, and Thanksgiving for my family. Then the big test came! My mom has always seen more potential in me than I've seen in myself at times, and in August 2018 she asked me to make cookies for my cousin's wedding: little red trucks that said "Just Married." And the real kicker was that she asked me to make 5 dozen! I had never made this many cookies in one sitting, let alone decorated them with RI. So I started watching tutorials about RI consistencies and techniques and worked up the courage to make them. I LOVED every minute of making them, and I was so proud of the outcome! It made me think, "Wow, I might actually be able to do this!" So I did! I found every reason to make cookies and practice what I was learning. I started my business, Evergreen Cookie Company, in October 2018, kicked it off with a cookie decorating class, and haven't looked back.
The meaning behind the name: Evergreen trees retain their green leaves throughout the year and are not subject to changing seasons. I believe the same thing to be true for cookies! A year is filled with many seasons, holidays, and reasons to celebrate, and cookies are a perfect addition to all of them. They are always relevant and popular, no matter the time of year!
Thank you for following along and supporting me in this endeavor! I look forward to making your special occasions even sweeter with custom treats.
